Easy Ways to Get Rid of Your Pet

Easy ways to get rid of your pet

Nowadays having a pet has become a trend, status symbol or just or just a “lifestyle”. For many individuals or families who want to have a pet for the above reasons, it will be a totally new experience and a pet will be purchased without any previous consideration. Commitment, basic knowledge how to care for animal and what the needs of the animal are , what type of animal fits your family and lifestyle etc are crucial factors that need to be thoroughly thought off before even thinking of getting a pet. Unfortunately getting a pet for the wrong reasons and without any consideration always leads to neglected and homeless animals…
JAAN, the local animal shelter Pondok Pengayom Satwa as well as other animal welfare groups basically all started out with the same mission and vision which is to care for animals that are in need , strays and abused animals, but not to fix other peoples “problems” since they should be responsible for that themselves. In reality JAAN is overwhelmed and occupied with cleaning up behind others and taking care of other peoples “problems” and responsibilities. Every single day we are just shocked by the lack of responsibility and the lack of empathy of humans nowadays . What does this teach our children? What kind of role model are we with this irresponsible and cold hearted behavior?
For those who have visited our website before and have read the stories of the abused and neglected animals that have been rescued by JAAN, here are some stories of dogs that were gotten rid of the easy way the past 3 weeks

pretty chai

This is Chai , a healthy and sweet kintanmani mix. Great with kids, great with other dogs and just in general a lovely natured dog. After 5 years the owner decided that she just didn’t want Chai anymore and 1 day after she had decided that , she went to an animal clinic to have Chai euthanized.

Very easy, you don’t want your dog anymore? Just put it down. No hassle right?

Luckily one of JAAN’s members was there and just happened to chat with her while waiting. Chai was taken to JAAN and was adopted by a nice family 3 days later. Happy ending for Chai!!

Cole and Colina are 2 sweet mixed breed dogs. Good with children and cats, these 2 were owned by a foreigner who moved back to the US. He thought that bringing them was just ridiculous since there are many dogs in shelters in the US waiting to be adopted.

Very true, but does he realize why all those poor animals ended up in the shelter in the first place??? Isn’t it because of people like him who don’t want to make a commitment? Unfortunately JAAN does not know what happened to Cole and Colina. 2 days before this family left they had not found a home yet . This family had contacted JAAN 3 weeks before they left (which is a short time to find a good home!) and we had not found anybody yet. The day that he had said that they would leave, we called them but nobody picked up the phone. We went over to their house but it was empty.

Hopefully Cole and Colina are doing well…

Nala mandi

Not all sad stories have a happy ending…Nala is one of the unlucky ones…

During the lebaran holiday Nala was literally left on the street with nobody to care for her. She was trying very hard to get back inside the garden, but the gate was locked and the house was empty. Exposed to the hot sun and rain without any food, Nala’s condition became very bad. When a friend of JAAN brought her to us her condition was bad. Initially we thought that with good food, care and lots of TLC she would recover fast. We had no idea how bad it was until she was cared for at Animal Clinic Jakarta and monitored day and night. Blood results showed that there was little we could do for her and she passed away a week after she was rescued. Is that how you you solve your “problem” when you go out of town?? Just throw your dog on the street?

Sorry no pics of Kylie and pups yet….

Kylie and her 3 puppies were dumped in a housing complex in Lebak Bulus- South Jakarta. There is a huge open space in the back of this area where many, many dogs and cats have been dumped over the years. Very easy because it’s a quiet area where you can easily dump your dog! Kylie was left there by her previous owner with her 3 pups that are about a week old, all the way in the back unable to look for food. According to some people who live in that neighborhood and who walk there every morning, Kylie was in the gutter and stayed at the same spot for 3 days guarding her puppies. When the JAAN rescue team arrived they had to sedate her because she was really protective of her pups. I wonder whether Kylie’s previous owner thinks of her and thinks of how Kylie is going to eat…

I wonder if the owner was feeling guilty when we had the heavy rain for the past couple of days knowing that Kylie must be wet and cold without shelter in the gutter and that the puppies must feel very cold as well since they are still so fragile..

I wonder if the previous owner understands the sadness , fear and confusion that Kylie must have felt…. Kylie and her pups will be in need of a good & FOREVER home soon

golden 1 Are you getting married?? Good reason to get rid of your dog(???????)!!! This sweet golden retriever, a once handsome champion, became unwanted after the owner got married. Tied up at the groom’s parent’s home, this dog is very much neglected since he seems to be unwanted by the whole family. Unfortunately the owner changed his mind and ended up not turning over his neglected dog to JAAN. We suspect that he got a better “deal” and sold him. Hopefully whoever bought this poor dog will give him a good life…

These are just a few examples of irresponsible pet owners. I’m sure that other animal welfare organizations deal with the same problems. We should also not forget that although these dogs have been unlucky, they were very fortunate that they were rescued and that they have a second chance in life because there are thousands and thousands of other dogs and cats that don’t get a second chance and end up suffering.
Owning a pet is a serious responsibility so PLEASE do your homework before you decide on getting a pet. No animal deserves to suffer and no animal should become the victim because of your irresponsibility!
