Dogs Recued in November, Chika, Douglas (Adopted), Mini
In November JAAN has managed to succesfully rescue 4 dogs that all had a different, but sad existance.

Chika/ Local Mix/ Female/ born around 2008
With the current economical situation that has effected many people, having to survive each month has become even a bigger struggle. However, is that a good enough reason to get rid of your dog just like that? |
We were informed by a friend of JAAN that a black dog was dumped on the parking lot of D’Best supermarket. Unfortunately we were not able to respond to this report intsantly due to a lack of space
JAAN is not a rescue center nor do we have the facilities to temporarily shelter animals. We depend fully on foster homes and besides the fact that all JAAN staff members will temporarily foster a dog/cat if there is space, we currently don’t have many volunteer foster homes |
|---|
We ended up deciding to rescue this dog and the dog was decided to be fostered by a JAAN member until a permanent home is found. It was not easy to rescue Chika because she was very afraid. |
JAAN had to sedate her when she was rescued. Since Chika has probably spent several weeks on the parking lot fighting to survive, she was a little bit traumatized by the whole experience. Chika’s general condition is getting better now and before we sterilize her she needs to gain some weight and become 100% fit again. She is starting to re-gain her trust towards people and once she gets to know you she is a very sweet and friendly girl! Would you be willing to give Chika a second chance in life?? |

Douglas (Adopted) / Terrier Mix/ Male/ Born around 2006

Not many people understand the concept of having a pet and think that just claiming to own one is enough. Obviously a dog or cat has needs and needs to be taken care of by its owner. Dogs and cats need to have a responsible owner who will give them a comfortable and safe home, feed them, gives them love and attention and an owner who will provide medical care when needed. |
At a university in Central Jakarta, having a dog has suddenly become a trend. Many student are buying dogs that they then keep somewhere at their campus. They feed them (when they are there), but other then that the dogs just roam around at the campus. Obviously keeping a pet at your campus is not a responsible way of having a pet. The dogs who live there often get sick, got hit by a car and have to endure rough treatment from other people who don’t like dogs. Once in a while when there were too many dogs and the university management got fed up with too many dogs roaming around, the animal control people from the government will raid the place and will bring all the dogs back the the government pound where these poor dogs will be starved to death. Some of these students who intitially thought it would be fun owning a pet, grow tired of it at one stage and then forget they have ever owned one! |

Douglas was found wandering around the campus by a caring student. This caring student felt sorry for Douglas and started to feed him. She cared for him for two years, but since she has almost completed her study, she is no longer capable of caring for Douglas.
Now what will happen to Douglas?? After JAAN had found a foster home who could temporarily care for Douglas, we picked him up from the university. He is a really sweet guy and was very cooperative going in the car and traveling from the universiy to our office. |

Although he is very sweet, calm and has a great personality, Douglas will need time to adjust and to get used to a “normal” life in a home environment.
Douglas will be sterilized soon and will be ready for a new life in with a loving family! Are you interested in giving this sweet, calm and adorable big guy a loving and forever home? |

Mini/ Maltese/ Female/ Born around 1999
Have you ever thought about what you will do when your dog grows older, when your dog get medical problems or starts to stink or starts to develop a skin condition? What will you do? Would you still care for it and be commited till the end? |
Mini was found by a friend of JAAN on the side of the street. When Mini was found she was in a poor condition . She had scabies, very long nails, dirty eyes that were all crusty and just looked extremely neglected. This sweet female maltese had been living in a cage for most of her life and when she was starting to get sick she was thrown on the street. The person who found Mini was unable to keep her so she brought her to JAAN. Mini came to us with little hair and has a tumor. Despite her bad past, Mini is a real sweetheart and loves to be cuddled. |
|---|
Our vet suggested to have Mini xrayed and to check her blood to see where we are at since Mini is not young anymore. We are hoping that whatever she has, we can still operate her and nurse her back to health. She really deserves the best for the remaining period of her life!
The stories above of the dogs that were rescued by JAAN are the lucky ones. there are so many other dogs and cats that we are not able to rescue or help.
If you would like to give your contribution this is what you can do:
- Don not support irresponsible petshops or breeders!! If you would like to have a pet, adopt from JAAN or any other responsible organization that helps animals in need.
- Be a responsible pet owner!! Dont neglect your pet! Find information on responsible pet ownership and find out what your pet needs. Remember, owning a pet should be a life long commitment!
- Most animals that we rescue come to us in bad shape and need a lot of medical care that is not cheap. Besides that, every dog and cat will also be sterilized before adopted out. JAAN is always in need of help since we are a non-profit organization. Your donation can change lives! We are always in need of frontline, deworming tablets, dog/cat food, medicine and financial support for operations.
- We are always in need in of foster homes. For more information about our foster program please see : FOSTERING FOR JAAN
- You could also rescue yourself! JAAN is always full and we dont have the facilities to shelter them. JAAN can guide/advise you throughout the whole rescue and the time you will foster. We will help with finding a permanent home by promoting the dog/cat you rescued on our website.
