Recycling Activities workshop in Karimunjawa, Central Java
The beautiful island Karimun Jawa is located in the Java Sea, northern of Semarang (Central Java).
Since the beginning of 2011 JAAN has started a program there to protect dolphins as all dolphins that are used in circusses throughout Indonesia were originally captured from this area.
The main island Karimun Jawa and Kemujan became the home base of the JAAN team.
The beautiful forests border the bright blue sea and whote beaches.
Karimun Jawa has a population of 8000 people and most of the local people are dependant from fisheries and sea weed farming.
As the recycling program that JAAN runs in the Thousand Islands has proved succesfull, JAAN has started to set up recycling activities in the area of Karimun as well.

Twenty local women have followed the workshop in recycling and are now starting to turn waste in to useful products.
These activities are vital because we want the sea and the white sandy beaches on these iddylic islands to be and stay clean.
And besides that, these activities bring an income for everyone involved.
