The key aim of this project is help to save the endangered siamang gibbon (Hylobates syndactylus)
As these beautiful primates attract animal collectors and private pet owners, the trade in siamangs, although illegal, still occurs. Siamangs caught in Sumatra, in the area of Palembang and Lampung, are sold in Jakarta. JAAN strives to assist the Forestry Department with confiscations and rehabilitation of confiscated primates.
Key Strategies of this project are:
• The monitoring and enforcement of laws relating to the illegal trade in siamangs within Sumatra and Jakarta;
• Raising awareness about nature conservation
• The rehabilitation of siamang gibbons now under the care of the Forestry department of Lampung.
The project is based in South Sumatra. Here, JAAN hopes to achieve to built an small education centre and also surveys on wild siamang populations will be conducted. Rehabilitation of now captive held siamangs will also occur in this area.
Surely the goal of this project is to expose and end the cruel illegal trade circuit of siamang gibbons, creating awareness and rehabilitating the siamang gibbons now held under poor conditions in South Sumatra (Lampung).
Funding is needed to help the siamangs..please donate!
By adopting a siamang, JAAN will send you a picture of the siamang you choose to adopt and updates about his/her condition.
