We had a very special night! At @montysjakarta the gala event & auction was a great succes & we are VERY thankful for the support of so many amazing people to help wildlife in Indonesia & especially our new project in South Sumatra to combat the wildlife trade, #SaveDennis& protect orangutans.
Monty’s & Klabogroup together with Jakarta Animal Aid Network, Prestige Magazine & Albens Cider presented an Exclusive Gala Dinner & Auction for Dennis the orangutan supporting & representing the Indonesian rainforest & all the endangered orangutans & other species due to the continuous burning & deforestation of our precious forests for the greedy palm oil industry.
Ted the photographer, which pictures are featured in the book DENNIS, a collaboration with Jakarta Animal Aid Network & Mrs. Niniek Purnomo, silent auctioned a limited amount of Dennis prints & the money will be donated to the charity!
The famous Dutch artist Pierre Guillaume had also given us a real painting of Dennis to Auction plus another famous Dutch artist Gijs Donker also painted 3 pieces to be auctioned.
A set menu created by Executive Chef Christer Foldnes & cocktails by Albens were enjoyed by the extinguished guests.
A HUGE thank you to dear @Bogdanvlasefor all the organizing & support! 🧡
MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH! CITY OF TOMOHON PLEDGES COMMITMENT TO ENDING CRUEL DOG & CAT MEAT TRADE!
Representatives from the Dog Meat Free Indonesia Coalition were in Tomohon (North Sulawesi) with Animal Friends Manado to meet with Government representatives of the City of Tomohon – home to the notorious ‘Extreme Market’.
Discussing the need for urgent action to be taken to end the slaughter of tens of thousands of dogs and cats each week. (Find out more by here)
We secured commitment from the city that they would take action to end the brutal trades & requested our support to facilitate this change!
Whilst we welcome the City’s commitment & discussed our grave concerns for animal welfare & public health and safety, we will continue to work hard to make sure words result in strong actions.
So please continue to support us and please continue to take action for Indonesia’s dogs & cats. Head to the official DMFI website and let your voice be hear here – www.dogmeatfreeindonesia.org/take-action/take-action
This inspiring & lovely pair ‘Everything in Between‘ are planning a long yet adventurous journey on bicycle all the way from Holland to Jakarta to raise money for the 3 organizations & we’re one of them! On Friday, December the 15th three wild caught dolphins were found at the ‘Menjangan Shark Pool’, a tourist attraction In KarimunJawa area very poor condition. When the team arrived at the location we observed the poor dolphins kept inside a very shallow pool between reef sharks!
Within 48 hours we lost two dolphins despite fast action taken by both our team & the National Park Authorities assisted by the army & navy. The dolphins were relocated to the worlds ONLY permanent rehabilitation sea pen for dolphins in Kemujan, KarimunJawa area.
One dolphin fortunately was nursed back to health & then succesfully released. KarimunJawa is the area where the captive dolphin facilities in Indonesia take their dolphins from, all being illegally captured from the open sea to be abused in one of the worlds last dolphin travel circus.
In 2011 the worlds first dolphin permanent rehabilitation facility was constructed here, with the support & guidance of @dolphin_project & in collaboration with the Forestry Department National Park Authorities in KarimunJawa to enable illegally captured & imprisoned dolphins to be rehabilitated back to the wild.
As for this case, our team will monitor, very closely, the legal actions taken against those responsible for these severe crimes & we have to CLOSE DOWN the traveling circuses to truly see an end to this ongoing exploitation happening to dolphin! Lets thanks @kementrianlhk for the fast action & to end dolphin travel shows in 2018.
We are going back in time & soon the immense suffering these poor horses will have to endure will start all over again.
Traditions & cultures are great & should be preserved, but of course it should be a good tradition that is not of violent nature towards humans, the environment OR animals .. If the excuse for bringing them back is tourism then think again.
When we started our program with carriage horses it was actually because we received so many reports from TOURISTS about the suffering & abusive way the horses at Monas we’re kept & treated. It was unacceptable! We then did a thorough investigation & indeed the horses were & still are, suffering incredibly.
The fact that the Goverment of DKI Jakarta wants to have carriage horses back is unacceptable at this stage. Accidents keep happening due to the working conditions of the horses in the heat, long distances, lack of veterinaty care & proper shelter. The situation in DKI cant be compared to NY http://megapolitan.kompas.com/read/2017/11/20/21094071/alasan-jaan-tolak-wacana-anies-sandi-izinkan-kuda-delman-di-monas where the horses dont need to walk long distances before being worked, like in DKI (from Depok to Monas, for example).
The housing of the horses is very poor, horses are kept on & inside wooden planks. This situation needs to change to prevent more suffering & road accidents. Also the originally wild ranging horses are imported to Java in boats from Sumba, a hell of a trip for the horses after which they are trained to become a carriage horse!
Filthy living conditions for the horses.

Horse that collapsed on the busy streets of Jakarta due to neglect & eventually passed away despite our team immediately heading to the area. RIP beautiful!

Two years ago a boat had engine problems & many horses died. We has monitored the carriage horse situation actively since 2009 & have worked to help horse owners since, even registering all the horses used, assisting with veterinary care & building a carriage horse welfare center. Yet these efforts are useless if we dont bundle forces to help improve the welfare of these poor horses. We are willing to collaborate & seek proper solutions together!
Jakarta is NOT New York! In NY its a hand full of carriage horses that are much better cared for & have regulations & SOP’s! Even so, many people dont agree with the carriage horses in NY & is becoming a dying business.
Banning them from monas was the right decision. There are many other ways to highlight Betawi culture & traditions.
Traditional Betawi food, ondel2, tari betawi, lenong betawi & much more! Please highlight traditions that we can be proud of .. Please dont support animal abuse 🙏🏼 @sandiuno @aniesbawedan
