A call to the Bank Of China

This is a call to the Bank of China to immediately CEASE funding for the construction of the hydro dam in the Batang Toru Rainforest, Sumatra, Indonesia as many animals will suffer. Read more on how you can join!

A billion-dollar hydroelectric dam development in Indonesia that threatens the habitat of the worlds rarest great ape has parked fresh concern about the impact of Chinas globe-spanning infrastructure drive.

The site of the dam in the Batang Toru rainforest on Sumatra island is the only known habitat of the Tapanuli orangutan, a newly discovered species that numbers about 800 individuals in total.
The $1.6 billion project, which is expected to be operational by 2022, will cut through the heart of the critically endangered animal`s habitat, which is also home to agile gibbons, siamangs and Sumatran tigers.

This project will wipe out the existence of the world’s rarest ape.

LATEST CONFISCATION OF ILLEGAL WILDLIFE

Our collective team (WCS, JAAN, Central Java Forestry Department & Central Java Police Department) have succeeded today to confiscate illegally traded animals from an illegal wildlife trader in Central Java!
The 26 year old trader named Johnny, from Gombong, has been arrested.

INTRODUCING BAILEY THE WILDLIFE HERO

‘Bailey’ is the WORLD’S FIRST sniffer dog who is going to be able to sniff out wildlife that is being illegally traded across Indonesian borders! #BaileyWildlifeHero

We want to start working more in the beginning of the wildlife trade & prevent animals from ending up being illegally traded!
Wildlife rescue centers in Indonesia have huge challenges to care for the many animals handed over that have been rescued & confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade.
Returning these animals to the wild is a long process & to enable us to work more effectively at the BEGINNING of the chain, we wish to work at the source!

We are setting up transit centers in strategic areas & will operate the K9 Wildlife Unit to help us detect wildlife that is being traded.
Today we held a very succesful event – the Launching of the K9 Wildlife Unit at the Erasmushuis, Royal Dutch Embassy.
